BMW Bike Ready to Travel

BMW Bike Being Serviced
BMW R1200 GS was J&A's favoured mode of land transport for a variety of reasons. Firstly they chose a bike over a car because it is so much smaller than a car and takes up far less on-board storage space.  On the occasional times they might need a car, they agreed that they would hire one.

Having settled for a bike the next choice was, which one?  Alan's heart said Ducati  but his head said BMW because they needed a reliable easy to use motorcycle which would carry ample (relatively) luggage for their inland trips to destinations, yet to be discovered.  They other key attribute they needed was a bike with an on and off-road capability, now commonly known as Enduro's. Simply because they may moor JENAL  in places where good roads are a secondary consideration.

After lots of research, Alan chose the BMW R1200 GS because it filled all their above criteria and all the magazine road-test reports, he read, said it was the best choice.  He chose a 9 month old Ocean Blue example, purchased privately but serviced by his helpful and local BMW Motorrad dealer called SBW Motorrad in Hertford. Alan being Alan, he had to 'tweak' it a bit by changing and modifying a few items to improve and customise.

The motorbike is stored in its own garage (below decks) in the forepeak where the 6m mast loads and unloads it. See the bow locker page for more info.
